Athena Strategies President Kathy Boockvar spoke this week with the Pennsylvania Capital-Star to discuss the Pennsylvania Supreme Court race and other races on the ballot, and the role that issues, including abortion rights, were playing in this week’s election. She shared insights into campaign financing issues that make it harder for voters to learn genuine information about candidates, as well as the recent efforts by PA legislative Republicans to ban reproductive freedom in the Commonwealth.
“Voters, more than anything else, want to think that the person that they’re electing shares their values,” she said. “One of the worst things about how our elections work and how our campaign financing works, is that a lot of the time, the candidate with the most money wins,” adding that most voters know very little about the candidates on their ballots.
