In a recent interview with CNN, Kathy Boockvar discussed false claims by the Trump campaign in the lead up to the election, to lay the groundwork for challenging it if he lost. These claims included disinformation surrounding the announcement by Lancaster county that they were investigating large numbers of suspicious voter registration forms – not ballots – that had been submitted right before the voter registration deadline.

Boockvar explained that it is unfortunately not unusual for paid canvassers to turn in error-ridden voter registration forms, usually spurred by financial benefits or quotas to incentivize submitting large numbers, combined with poor quality control and oversight. She also emphasized that it is good news that the safeguards in place are what flagged these forms, and in fact shows the system worked. Additionally, she explained that there are many “checks in place to verify voters’ person information and signatures before any ballots are cast,” and many other guardrails are carried out to make sure that only eligible voters can cast their vote and have that vote counted.

“All these safeguards make sure that this doesn’t impact voting,” said Boockvar. “What it doesn’t do is it doesn’t actually make it any more likely that there’s going to be any more improper votes, thanks to all those guardrails in place.”
