Fox, Newsmax, and other defamation claims arising from 2020 election

Dominion Voting Systems’ $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit against Newsmax related to the airing of 2020 election lies is scheduled to go to trial in late September 2024, a Delaware judge ruled in September. Read more from CNN here.

The same Delaware judge also rejected Newsmax’s attempt to throw out part of a defamation case brought by Smartmatic, another election technology company. Smartmatic sued Newsmax after the network repeatedly broadcast lies about the 2020 election and Smartmatic software. After discovery, Smartmatic updated its lawsuit to add 26 additional examples of alleged defamation. Smartmatic is also suing Fox News for $2.7 billion over similar broadcasting of baseless conspiracy theories relating to the 2020 election. Read more from CNN here.
